Meet Ben

I’m a bodybuilder currently living in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. I am an elementary school teacher, currently teaching grade 4. I am Kluane First Nation from the Crow Clan and my First Nation name is Tyee Shaw. Growing up, I was an avid athlete playing hockey, baseball, soccer and basketball. Ice hockey was my true passion and I played both Junior A and B, before eventually having to turn down a professional contract in Europe due to injuries. I never recovered from my injuries and had to quit playing altogether around 5 years ago. As a result, I was very upset and unhappy, living a very unhealthy lifestyle and withering away to 137 pounds.

This is when I decided to start weightlifting. I started modestly at home with a bench and dumbbells. After 2 years at home I was convinced by a friend to try a bodybuilding show. I finally joined a gym in order to utilize leg equipment in preparation for my first contest and never looked back. So after 5 years of training and 3 contests, I’m much happier, I’ve gained around 80 pounds of muscle and have completely changed my life in a positive and healthier manner. In addition, I decided to get my personal training certification in order to help others who want to find their salvation through exercise and fitness.

I’ve never been more passionate than I am towards the bodybuilding grind and lifestyle. My current bodybuilding goal is to qualify and then to place top 3 at a national bodybuilding show or pro qualifier.
